Cindy was elected to the CRCSD Board of Directors in 2019 and is seeking her second term. While on the Board, she has served as Vice President and as the Board’s legislative liaison. She has been vocal in her advocacy for local control and for the use of public tax dollars for public schools. While on the Board, she has attended state education conferences, legislative advocacy days and numerous community listening sessions and events.
Cindy has lived in Cedar Rapids her entire adult life. Cindy taught science at Wilson Junior High, Taft Junior High and Kennedy High School in the Cedar Rapids School District during her 33 year career. Cindy spent most of her career teaching at Kennedy Senior High School, where she taught general science and a variety of biology courses, including Advanced Placement Biology. While at Kennedy, she also served as Science Department Chair.
Cindy’s husband, Elwood, was also a career educator in the Cedar Rapids School District. Their daughter, Elyse, graduated from Jefferson High School. Elyse and her husband, Andrew, also live and work in Cedar Rapids.
